81% of U.S. CS teachers believe AI should be part of core education, yet fewer than half feel prepared to teach it.
Globally, two-thirds of countries offer K–12 CS education, but in the U.S., access depends heavily on district wealth and geography.
Open-weight models are now competitive with proprietary ones (1.7% gap vs. 8% last year), offering savings, but only for schools with IT teams to deploy them.

🏭Industry First: When Business Sets the Rules

In 2024, 90% of notable AI models were developed by industry—not universities or public labs. And while U.S. companies built 40 of them, most were engineered for commercial success, not classroom alignment.
$33.9 billion in global investment went into generative AI, but pedagogical design remains an afterthought.
Tools often arrive fully formed, with little room for customization by teachers or education leaders.

At the same time, 59 new federal AI regulations were introduced last year, doubling 2023’s total.

Training compute is doubling every 5 months, but U.S. CS graduate output increased just 22% in a decade.

Most educators feel left out of national AI innovation conversations altogether.

In schools, this translates into hesitation among families and school boards, which often slows or blocks progress.
